Avoid gathering WiFi IP address?

Postby uniceftacro on Tue Apr 19, 2011 11:03 am

Hello,
For a good number of our laptops, Alloy Discovery is inserting in the Navigator database the WLAN IP address instead of the private LAN. Is there a way to tell Navigator or Discovery to only associate IP address with a specific prefix?
Thanks.

I think the IP reported as primary is the one being used at the time of the audit. Not sure if there's a way to get around that.

According to alloy support it uses the OS logic to select the "primary" interface. The problem with this is, WLAN and LAN are both Ethernet-class networks and they are assigned the same piority.
Result is, you end up with wifi and lan IP addresses randomly in the database.

If you're using Navigator 6 you can use workflow in Navigator to handle this as long as the IP addresses are easily identified. You can set mapping to virtual field and then check it's contents. Based on that you either set to primary or not.

We worked with support with this, with their help we were able to filter-out wifi addresses, but in those cases were wifi had priority over wired, that meant no IP address was captured.
