Automately progress updates via e-mail notifications

I would like to implement automatic status updates via e-mail notification for all open issues where frequency is based on priority. I.E., progress updates for all open 'High' priority issues to be sent hourly.

Is anyone doing something similar or does anyone have any ideas on how this may be achieved?

Are you talking more about escalations?

For instance, do you want to have notifications sent to the assignee, then the manager later on?
