Sub product grouping issue...

Postby beacon on Wed Jun 06, 2007 11:35 pm

We are currently using asset navigator version 4.5.2.

Currently when an audit is run it will pick up sub products that fall under the same license as the main core licensed product.
This can make reporting a major hassle when we want to see licenses compared to installations as there may be 5, 10 or 15 products that could possibly be covered by one license.

We do not want to create a product suite because we will then loose the granularity of version numbers of applications.

The main problems software is:
- Visual Studio 2005
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005

If any one has a solution to get around using a product suite that would be greatly appreciated if you could share it here.

Sometimes software products have more then one entry in Windows 'Add or Remove Programs'. Most likely these are what you call sub products. I would track the main component and mark the others as 'not reportable'. Another, more complicated option is using Groups or UDF fields and may be custom reports. The last option would require more time and applicable only if you have enough time and resources.
