How do others audit detached systems

Postby ghawton on Wed Mar 12, 2003 6:13 pm

I would like to get other's feedback on how they are auditing detached/laptop systems. For example, our field staff connect to the general Internet using a dialup or broadband function, and then activate a VPN client to connect to our network and Exchange Server. Therefore, they never really "login" and therefore never have a login script run on their computers. What would be the best way to initiate and audit on those systems? I was thinking that I would have to send an E-Mail with a hot link to initiate the audit but wondering if there was a better way?

Thanks in advance.

My Suggestion to you is have a Loging script run when they connect with a VPN Client. You can setup VPN Client to use a login scripts. The Down side is if you have user using their home PC and not Company equipment then those pc will show up too. We have users running Login scripts over a VPN connection but we don't scan their pc due to that many people use their own pc.

And you have a windows 2000 AD, then maybe you could do something in an GPO.´

It's not possible for all VPN solutions to run a script when a user logs on !

I came here looking for a solution for the same exact thing. Disappointing that there is no solution posted.

When the login script runs through our citrix portal, I think it audits them then, but I'm not absolutely sure. Good question. Now I want to find out.
