Navigator updates

Hi,

It's almost August 2012 and it has now been over 2 years since Navigator 6.0 was released in May 2010 and 15 months since the 6.1.1 update in April 2011. I'm wondering what Alloy is working on these days and when we can expect to see new updates for Navigator. Navigator works well enough, but it still has some very frustrating bugs that have yet to be addressed. I have to wonder what my maintenance fees are going towards when not a single patch or bug fix has been released in almost a year and a half.

As our renewal date approaches, I have to consider that there are more products competing directly with Navigator today than there were when we purchased Navigator 5 back in 2008; some of which, like Microsoft Service Manager, integrate directly with products that we already own. The perception that Alloy doesn't make regular improvements to Navigator, along with the fact that our annual renewal cost has increased by 40% since 2010, factors heavily into my consideration of whether to renew or migrate to another product.

Can anyone at Alloy provide some insight that might help address my concerns?

Hey Andrew,

Thanks for your feedback.

Just keep in mind if you want to communicate with us at Alloy, you'd be better off contacting us directly. There are several areas that explain this forum is not for communication with Alloy Software, but instead to fascilitate customer interaction - viewtopic.php?f=65&t=4363 I don't want you to post something here for us and be upset if we don't reply.

It just so happens I was dropping by to start writing a post about the upcoming Alloy Navigator 6.5 release!! LOL

To address your concerns, we actually had 3-4 releases since 6.0 was released, plus 2-3 releases of our inventory scanning tools and now with 6.5, which could have easily been considered 7.0 due to all of the new functionality, we have another.

Here's just some of what you can expect:

• Calendar View
• Customer Satisfaction Survey
• Software License Management Enhancements
• Manager Access in Self Service Portal
• Dashboard Enhancements
• Knowledge Base Ratings
• Auto-Assignment and Workload Balancing
• Concurrent License Model
• Hyper-Visor Support
• Workflow Enhancements
• Improved SNMP Handling
• Self Service Portal Multi-Language Support
• Self Service Portal Anonymous Access
• and more!

In terms of your comments relating to bugs and increased coverage costs, it seems a little unfair since it may lack context. I'm sure any increase in costs came over a several year period over several major product versions along with increases to your license size and it's important to consider you're paying for both maintenance and premium support, not just maintenance. We actually lowered our costs in regards to coverage.

But back to AN6.5, the above list honestly doesn't do it justice. AN6.5 is a really big release and I'm sure you'll be impressed with it. The release will be available in the Support Portal by Tuesday, July 31st for download by Maintenance customers such as yourself. If you'd like we'd be happy to meet with you and review the changes so you get the most out of the new version.

Just let us know.

Thank you again for your feedback and feel free to contact me directly to discuss - pille@alloy-software.com Look for release information coming soon!

Thank you for your prompt reply, Paul and what great timing! I'm looking forward to trying out the new 6.5 version; it sounds like a significant update and I'm sure your development team worked hard to put it together.

I hope you didn't take offense to my comments and perhaps I chose an inappropriate forum in which to voice them, but what I was trying to say is that as a customer there are times that I would like to see a few interim patches to address functional bugs (such as window resizing, updating tickets with open files, spell check handling of slash character) in the span between major feature enhancements.

That said, I'm excited to see what you've done in 6.5

No offense taken at all Andrew. We should have done a better job of alerting you about what we were working on.

I see you have active maintenance so you're all ready to have at it since you get it free :) Please feel free to let us know what you think! This release was 70-80% based on our customer's feedback! :)
