Upload file is missing serial# IBM laptops.

HI,

Question; is this a known problem that the serial number of IBM laptops is not recorded in the upload file created by ina32.exe?

Thanks, Ziggy.

The serial number mapping in A5 is set to the system enclosure by default. This is fine, however some manufacturers don't use the system enclosure serial number and some even use the same one for an entire batch of computers.

You can change it from system enclosure to bios serial number by going into your administrative settings > network inventory module > audit profile > field mappings and looking for the serial number entry. Edit it and go under Machine > BIOS S/N.

This never seems to be blank or duplicated.

The only downside is that some manufacturers like Dell use the System Enclosure serial number and it matches their asset tag numbers on the machine. In the case that you have Dell machines you'll lose this as the Bios S/N doesn't match this tag
