Windows Management Instrumentation

The help files indicate that Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) must be installed on the client machines in order to collect advanced information about the hardware configuration for non WIN2K and WINXP machines. What do you recommend to get this installed on each computer in the network? Can this be run from a fixed location, or does it need to be downloaded and installed on each machine? What advanced information does it provide?

WMI has to be installed on each computer. It provides the following categories of system information:

- hardware serial numbers
- CPU information for older and non-Intel or non-AMD CPUs
- memory modules information
- BIOS Asset Tag/Serial Number
and more...
