It might be difficult to grasp the idea of "Detailed Scan" vs. "Summary Scan", even though it explained in the Help file and Getting Started manuals.
Here is a very simple rule of thumb:
* use "Detailed Scan" if you need to be able track individual files (i.e. use the File Find feature) matching the file mask
* use "Summary Scan" if you only need to collect usage statistic (i.e. total disk space occupied by the files of this type) for the file mask
So it looks like you found the right way to configure the File Scan for *.com files, rather than just a workaround.
We realize that some of that confusion comes from the fact that you can only select one scan type (either Detailed or Summary) for any particular file mask. In the upcoming releases of Network Inventory Navigator 4.1 and Asset Navigator 4.2.5 the File Scan configuration will be more intuitive and flexible. It will allows to include each particular file mask in both types of scan.
