Rank field?

What the rank does mean under tickets and activities in the Business Logic? I see some fields have this [Request_ID].[Status_ID].[Rank] and [Category_ID].[Rank] and tried to research but did not find answer.

I was told that ranks were added for a future use. There is no use in the current version.

Hmm, I thought these were used for ordering. For instance, in admin settings you can order your status and category values.
