is there any way of linking software so that update editions wont matter. i am trying to assign all the software on our domain to a licence.

for example office 2003 has
163 installs on version 11.0.8173.0
49 installs on version 11.0.7969.0

is there a way of combining these somehow so my munbers will stay in sync no matter what version is installed.

Absolutely. Here's a quick answer that support gave me a while back.

- under software products create a new software product with the following:

Name: Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003
Version: (ALL)

- under software recognition manager create a new rule
- link rule to the new product
- make active
- click add > registry criterion
- enter product name as: Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003
- leave other fields blank

Make sure product name is accurate cause it matters.

Now as audits come in, under software products you should see the installations start to build, but you don't lose your other product info in case you need to track versions. :D
