Tracking Downtime

Wondering if anyone is using A/N to track system downtime. Any thoughts on best practices? I'd like to be able to take a server or hardware record and come up with an uptime percentage. Thanks.

We did something like this a while back to track downtime that was pretty simple. We created a field called downtime in the computer record and just updated it. Of course the problem is that it doesn't tell you how much it's down per month or week. Maybe it would be better to use ticket activities with a special category called downtime and then write a report that works with the related ci field and time spent. I guess if you had the downtime per interval you could then do a calc on up/down time.
