SMTP

Postby kbroadbridge on Fri Jun 11, 2004 10:29 am

We are attempting to utilize the web help desk component with users that have separate email addresses outside our domain. Naturally, this requires the smtp to allow relaying. We have configured this the correctly....at least we think it's configured correctly. However we are receiving an smtp. Is there an smtp document?

Ticket has not been submited - SMTP Error: 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for kbroadbridge@xxx.com
From: helpdesk@zzz.com
To: "Broadbridge, Kurt" <kbroadbridge@xxx.com>
Please check SMTP server settings.

This doesn't indicate any problem with your Asset Navigator SMTP settings. It indicates that the mail server is rejecting kbroadbridge@xxx.com as valid for relay. This needs to be corrected in your mail server settings.

I agree, however, we believe that it is setup correctly. That's the problem. We don't have these problems with any other applications that use the smtp for outbound. We've tried to use smtp on the server running the web help desk and our Exchange Server. Seems like the application is not authenticating.

Perhaps your smtp server requires login authentication for relay? The web help desk does not currently support passing a username/password to smtp servers. You should probably set your mail server to accept all relay traffic from the web server.

Why does the web administration have a check box "My SMTP requires authentication" and have a username and password then if it doesn't pass the authentication information?

Please send a screenshot of this screen from the 'web administration' to support@alloy-software.com with a reference to forum ID 2596.

This is not web help desk configuration, the screenshot you sent shows a configuration screen for email notification SMTP settings for the main application. SMTP settings for the web help desk are found in the global.asa file, and there is currently no option for SMTP authentication there.
