Autoregistration when contacts already exist

Postby stcallaghan on Thu Apr 08, 2004 8:24 am

Can anyone explain the autoregistration behaviour when the contact record already exists in AN? It seems that if the contact name exists, autoregistration fails. It works fine if the contact doesn't exist.

All of our users already exsit as contacts in AN. There must be a way to map existing contacts, without resorting to a database hack.

Self registration

I agree.
In a previous version of the help desk, a pulldown of all current users was available. All the user had to do was click on their name.
Is it possible to have this back?

Autoregistration when contacts already exist

Let's see:

- User self registers from the "NewUser.asp" web page (User already has a Contact record in the database)
- Depend on the options you select in the User Registration section (User Management), your Users may receive e-mail notification where by default the following information is included:

1. Login
2. Password
3. URL for accessing Web Help Desk

*** The User's password in the database will not be replaced with the new one!
*** Each User may have more than one unique login/password combination.

Self registration

There is no way to restore the dropdown list, it was replaced permanently.

stcallaghan:

One thing to be aware of is that the autoregistration routine will not resolve conflicts between the email address found in Active Directory and the one in the existing AN Contacts record. So if they are different (or if auto-registration can't pull email address from AD due to the permissions you have set) auto-registration will fail. And the error message in this case will be uninformative, which we will definitely address in a future release.
