AD Login Issues

Postby michael.angus on Sun Dec 14, 2003 9:48 pm

I have the Helpdesk Web site installed in my XP workstation for testing and I am having a few problems with the authentication. I have a copy of the DB also located locally. Here is an extract of the Global.asa file

--------------------------

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="VBScript" RUNAT="Server">
Sub Session_OnStart
'---------------------------------------------
' Impersonation type valid value "Off", "Basic"
'---------------------------------------------
Session("Impersonation")=UCase("Basic")

'---------------------------------------------
' Authentication type valid value "Standard"
'---------------------------------------------
' Session("Authentication")=UCase("Standard")
Session("Authentication")=UCase("Windows")

'---------------------------------------------
' Authorization user for WEB only
'---------------------------------------------
Session("DBLogin")="admin"
Session("DBPassword")="********"

'---------------------------------------------
' Predefined E-Mail
'---------------------------------------------
' Session("SendRegistrationTo")="helpdesk@mydomain.com"

'---------------------------------------------
' ACCESS Parameters
'---------------------------------------------
Session("DataBase")="d:assetbackupssds_it.mdb"

'---------------------------------------------
' Mail Setting
'---------------------------------------------
Session("SMTPHost")="smtp.mydomain.com"
Session("SMTPPort")=25

'---------------------------------------------
' Page Size
'---------------------------------------------

Version of WebPage is 4.2.3 Build 67.

In this current configuration I can login to this database without any problems from my workstation, however other people can not it states the following error within their browser:
Error: The specified directory service attribute or value does not exist
My Local IUSR account has full access to the directory and DB file.

If I change the Authentication to Standard, it works without problem, but obviously not with Domain usernames and passwords.

If I change the Impersonation to Off I receive this error;
Error: Configuration Error.
Please check the global.asa file - This combination Impersonation as 'OFF' and Authentication as 'WINDOWS' is not valid.
I have already run the regsvr32 an4hdu.dll and rebooted. But this does not fix the problem.

Request Assistance.

This error message probably indicates that there is no Users container in the web server's domain, or that it is empty of user records. Currently, our software can only auto-create user accounts from records in the Users container. You will need to create Windows type accounts by hand, or enable Standard auth. and selfregistration, and let users generate their own accounts.

You have trouble with ACCESS database - There is no way for native connection with a database in WINDOWS authenfication mode. You might use Standard authenfication or use Impersonatation='Basic' with Windows authenfication.

Thanks for your comments. I now have the helpdesk and techhelpdesk set up on the web server using standard authentication. It is a little disappointing that it will only authenticate from the Users OU, as we have to many users to group them all together in 1 OU.
