Duplicate Contacts

Postby mwoodyard on Wed Mar 14, 2007 9:03 am

Somehow we have ended up with multiple duplicate contacts which cannot be deleted because they are attached to one place or another in the database. Is there any way to merge the duplicates? We have Asset Navigator 4.5.0.

In 5.x there is both a script (for large amounts of duplications) and a built in merge feature to merge person records, but in A4 there is no such ability when there are duplicate contacts.

The recommended way to deal with duplicate contacts is to change all objects shown as belonging to that one contact you want to remove to the one you want to keep. Then uncheck active.

That way the contact isn't used any more, you can filter them out of your main view and you keep any possibly history you might need. Contacts and person records get linked to information you can't unlink and sql doesn't like when you try to delete related records.

Is there a way to track down where the objects are linked?

Well, if you're referencing:

Then there's no feasible way to do this, hence my recommendation.
