Cannot delete a User (Contact) in Asset Navigator 4.x Error

This error message indicates that the record you are trying to delete has one or more associations to other database objects. If the record is a Person for example, the error may be caused by one of the following:



- User has a relation to an asset (computer, peripheral or software license)

- User is selected as a department head in section Departments

- User is selected as a contact person for the office in section Offices

- User is related to a HD Ticket (activity record ) in Help Desk (technician or requester)

- User is associated with a library item

- User is associated with a purchase order (requester or authority).



Generally it is not recommended to delete any records from the database. The 'views' functionality can be used to filter out undesired records rather than deleting them. For instance, rather than deleting a Person record, deselect its Active checkbox and filter non-Active Persons out of views.



If you feel it is necessary to delete the object and are using product version 5 or greater, you can use the Actions->Show Dependencies command from the record to try and determine which other records you will need to delete or disassociate to make deleting the target record a possibility.



NOTE:

Editing the Asset Navigator's database directly (via Enterprise Manager or Access tools) is not recommended.
